Everything About the Metaverse

The acceleration of the digital world has brought many innovations into our lives. Our lifestyles, our daily activities and even our friends have come about as a result of being shaped by the digital world. We have started actively using major social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube, and have been introduced to the advanced dimensions of technology. So, will the digital world we live in remain limited to what social media platforms bring? No, my dear readers.

The development of technology and ever-faster internet connections continue to bring many innovations. Perhaps fifty years from now, even when we tell our grandchildren that we made money as influencers on Instagram, we may come across as rather old-fashioned to them. :)

Let’s get to today’s topic. Today, my dear readers, I am going to explain the “Metaverse” to you. I will try to tell you about this new system, which has burst onto the agenda like a bombshell and is set to spark a technological revolution. If you are ready, let’s begin.

Are Science-Fiction Films Becoming Reality?

Many of us have seen The Matrix. In the later scenes of the film, the character Thomas Anderson (Neo) enters a simulation taking place in his own brain, and action scenes unfold there. (I won’t go any further so as not to give spoilers to those who haven’t seen the film :) ) I am saying this for those who have seen it. So what if I told you that something similar could become reality today? The simulation and augmented virtual reality scenarios explored in many science-fiction films are about to come true. Come on, let’s begin.

What Is the Metaverse?

The words meta and verse are used in the sense of beyond something. In this universe, which allows us to cross into an entirely different dimension thanks to virtual reality headsets, there are virtual plots of land, buildings and avatars (characters we create ourselves). Moreover, in this universe where a virtual currency (cryptocurrency) is used, the avatars created can take part in any events they like, just as in real life, and can even visit whichever countries they wish.

The History of the Metaverse

The concept was first introduced in 1992 by the science-fiction author Neal Stephenson. Stephenson, who faced a great deal of negative criticism at the time, was considered to be exaggerating. Later, however, the word metaverse managed to attract the interest of Facebook, one of the giants of the digital world. So much so that two global giants, Facebook and Microsoft, sat down at the same table and signed an agreement on the metaverse. Thanks to this software, in which very serious investments are being made today, it is predicted that a new 3D (three-dimensional) world will be created.

The Future of the Metaverse

During the lockdown period brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the growing influence of social media platforms led to major developments in marketing activities, and digital marketing channels began to be used more actively. Now the metaverse, which we could also describe as augmented virtual reality, has emerged. Recently introduced by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, the metaverse will bring many innovations, from digital marketing activities to entire lines of business. For example, imagine digital billboards promoting a brand in three dimensions – wouldn’t that be amazing? What Will the Metaverse Be Used For?

Offering a public virtual reality, the metaverse will let you do whatever you like through the avatars you create.

For example, on a day when you have to stay at home, you will be able to put on your virtual reality headset and go to your workplace in the metaverse. Whenever you want to have fun, you will be able to go to a concert and have a great time. You will be able to buy land with cryptocurrencies.
